9-11 Five years later

September 11, 2006 marked the 5th anniversary of 9-11. I remember vividly what i was doing on that day. We were flying in an airplane, having flown out of Boston's Logan Airport on the 10th at 5:00pm. When we landed in Morocco, our friends who picked us up told us the breaking news; "Weird, something about two airplanes colliding in New York!" It was still happening even as we landed in North Africa.

Over here, on Sept 1, 2006, just days ago, the authorities arrested 56 people for plotting terrorist attacks at various tourist sites, cities, and assassinating political figures. Those involved included a few Royal Air Maroc pilots and their wives, former security personnel, explosive experts, and the like. A friend told me how they were caught. "Neighborhood gossip was that a lady was buying 13 loaves of bread every morning..." The gossip got around and finally someone started snooping. It was the terror plotters staying and meeting at a house.

Sometimes, gossip is good. It might save a life.
