Violence in US schools
One week: A crazy gunman storms a Colorado school and molests girls, shoots one and himself. In Wisconsin, a 15 year old shoots and kills the school principal. A week later, another gunman, a milkdriver with a 20 year grudge, kills 3 Amish schoolgirls in Pennsylvania, then kills himself. What do these have in common? - hurting, crazy people and guns.
For all the talk about security measures, guards, etc. No one has talked about weapons. Why is it so easy to get guns? Granted if the criminals had only knives, they still could have killed. But, not so easily. What needs to be done?
1. Get rid of guns. I'm sorry, I am for peace, and disarming and restricting the availability of firearms. Why does a guy need a semi-automatic weapon? Not for hunting, unless he's hunting people. Something is very wrong with America. The right to bear arms was from 1776, when colonialists wanted to defend themselves. The whole gun bearing needs re-examination.
2. Brainstorming: everyone needs to ask themselves what can be done to eliminate violent crime, particularly against children and students.
We have seen students kills other students, students kill teachers and school staff, adults kill students, teachers and staff. What can be done to stop it?
3. Talk with media: TV, movies, video, radio, music, games, et.al. about the influence of violence in programming and seek to change it and lessen it. HOllywood is entranced with action and violence. Stop it!
4. Empower teachers and school staff. They are afraid of students and there is chaos at school. They can't do their job any more. This is ridiculous. In Asian and Eastern culture, teachers are respected.
5. Educate everyone about how anger, rage, hatred leads to these violent acts. Ethics and morals are needed. Whatever happened to dialogue, kindness, understanding, forgiveness, and healing of emotions?
6. Prayer. Most of all we need to pray for this nation to wake up and understand what is happening. This is a clarion call!
