The Road Less Traveled

There is the wide road used by most people of this world and there is the narrow way, the Road Less Traveled. This blog is about experiences, people and places on the narrow path. I lived and worked in North Africa for many years. That is my outer journey. But my inner journey is spiritual, global and universal. In 2012, I moved to the Golden Triangle region of SE Asia (Laos, Myanmar, Thailand). I have started a whole new adventure. Come join me on the Road Less Traveled. Without and within.

True learning

Having just administered the last oral test of the semester, i have been thinking about true learning. Is it memorizing facts or data, copying off other people's papers, and similar short term activity? Something quickly learned and quickly forgotten? Only knowledge? What is true learning? What is really important? What is good or best for us?

I believe true learning happens when knowledge is internalized; it enters our minds and hearts and does not leave. It is long term. It is for life. Life learning.

Too many people want to take the wide, easy road. The way which says, "just succeed by any means. Cheat, don't study, get by without hard work." It is the way which the world follows. Really, do we want to live in a society filled with people who are bored, lazy, cheat, lie, or don't care about their work? Do we want to be like them? Are we like them?

Or are we different? Do we choose to be different and take the "road less traveled"? The road which is full of life, energy, truthfulness, straightness, and love and care? This is what i want!

May it be so!
