The Road Less Traveled

There is the wide road used by most people of this world and there is the narrow way, the Road Less Traveled. This blog is about experiences, people and places on the narrow path. I lived and worked in North Africa for many years. That is my outer journey. But my inner journey is spiritual, global and universal. In 2012, I moved to the Golden Triangle region of SE Asia (Laos, Myanmar, Thailand). I have started a whole new adventure. Come join me on the Road Less Traveled. Without and within.

A Cinderella Story

Leila's friend Fu has a "Cinderella" story:

Fu grew up very poor. She had to cook, shop, wash laundry by hand to help her mother with the younger children. It's because there was a time that her mom was ill and couldn't do much. In those days, Fu didn't sleep until 3 AM because she went to school and worked at home, too. When she reached high school, she told her mother she could only do one or the other, either housework or school, but not both. She had no time to sleep.

Her mother decided to let her study. When Fu was 15 or 16, a man asked her parents for her hand in marriage. How it came about was like this: everyday F walked to and from school. A man, 10 years older than her, was attracted to her and followed her. Her parents said, "She's still in high school. Please let Fu finish her studies." So, the man waited until she graduated.

The man had an excellent job as an engineer, earning 15,000 dirhams ($1875) per month.
[the average salary is 1600 dirhams ($200) per month.]

After Fu got married, her neighbor friend Fat came one day to visit, but she was out. Fat said to Fu's mother: "If I had a husband like Fu's, I'd be waiting at home for him with a basin in order to wash his feet." Fu's mom replied: "That's Fu's rzuq ." (the amount of good things God has proportioned to her.)
