Gone West
Western life, as in western USA, California is a 'scattered' brain experience for me.
Compared to Morocco, where community is tight, US society is spread out, distant, and isolated. Where are the people on the streets? Everyone is in cars. Where is "community"? It's somewhere, but I have to search for it. Clubs, associations, churches, school.
The highway lifestyle is not "green" friendly; you have to drive everywhere to do anything like shopping. The odd thing is that San Francisco is rated as "most walkable city" in the US. Every other city in California is the opposite.
Interesting how national and state urban planner choices affect us decades later. There is basically lousy public transport for those without cars. If you can't rent a car, you're stuck.
On the other hand, the shopping and eating choices are immense. Whatever you want in America, you can get... up to a point. Fresh organic produce is expensive, whereas Morocco we can get it as a matter of daily course.
